Why Macro Mixes?

Macros made EASY and fuel made FUN!

Macros matter

Macros is short for the word macronutrients, which refers to the three main nutrient types which make up all the foods that you eat.

These are:

  • Protein
  • Carbohydrates
  • Fat

Each plays a different role in your body’s functioning.

PROTEIN is lacking in most premixes and porridges yet it is arguably the king of the macronutrients. Hence why we add it in!

Protein is absolutely essential for the repair and building of tissues (think muscles, bones, skin, cartilage), brain functioning and even optimal digestion. For some reason many people don’t consume optimal amounts of it!

Adequate protein intake helps with appetite regulation, as well as retention and growth of lean body mass. Upon increasing their protein intake, people often note improved satiety levels and body composition.

Each product in the Macro Mixes range has been carefully formulated to provide an amazing macronutrient split. The goal was to be high in protein, and yet still remain calorie controlled. We nailed it!

You can easily get your delicious breakfasts, snacks and desserts in while nailing your protein intake. It also leaves loads of room to increase either the amount of fat or carbohydrates in your goodies depending on your requirements and preferences.

Acing the Amino Acids

Not all protein is created equal! The quality of a protein source is determined by it’s amino acid profile and digestibility. A complete protein source is one that contains all 9 of the essential amino acids.

For this reason we have added high quality, complete protein sources to Macro Mixes. This ensures they provide you with your essential amino acids in a bioavailable form.

When looking to stimulate muscle protein synthesis (essentially referring to keeping muscles healthy), you need adequate quantities of these, with leucine dosage being of particular interest.

Why mention this? Well a lot of higher protein food products claim high protein amounts but it is misleading because not all protein sources are the same. They vary in the amounts of amino acids they contain.

Foods supplemented with incomplete proteins like collagen or some plant based proteins (e.g. hemp) may deliver their own benefits, but should not replace other sources of your dietary protein.

That is why we have chosen to add whey protein concentrate and pea protein powder to our products. Alongside is a Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score (PDCAAS) graph. It scores protein sources based on their amino acid composition and digestibility as required by humans. You can read up more about dietary protein quality evaluation in human nutrition here.

Good for the gut

Good digestion and a thriving gut microbiome are important facilitators of good health.

Things that we know promote good gut health are:

  • A varied diet filled with lots of plants.
  • Adequate fiber intake.

Macro Mixes take care of the microbes in your gut by providing them with the nutrients they need to survive and thrive. They are high in fiber, which your gut bacteria feed on, as well as free from gluten and sugar, which can be linked to gut inflammation in sensitive individuals.

Longterm thinking

Every aspect of this product has been created with dietary and environmental sustainability in mind. Dietary sustainability means nutritious and satisfying while facilitating long term dietary adherence and health. Environment sustainability means a product and packaging made with the future health of the environment in mind.

We are thinking long term, are you?
